SUMMARY:NIKHEF Spring 2016
DESCRIPTION:Note: since a significant number of PhD students are attending the DRSTP school\, and because a program meeting had to be scheduled\, the sound bite session is postponed until the next THC meeting \n\n14:00-15:00 in H331 (NIKHEF): \nSpeaker: Robert Brandenberger (McGill) \nTitle: Searching for Cosmic Strings in New Observational Windows \nCosmic strings are predicted in a large class of particle physics\nmodels beyond the Standard Model. In models which admit cosmic\nstring solutions\, strings will form in the early universe and will\npersist to the present time. I will discuss searches for strings\nin cosmic microwave temperature and polarization maps\, in\nlarge-scale structure surveys\, and in 21cm experiments. I\nwill also mention some roles which cosmic string loops could\nhave in globular cluster and supermassive black hole formation. \n\n15:30-16:30 in H331 (NIKHEF): \nSpeaker: Gianluca Inverso (NIKHEF) \nTitle: Journal club on 1511.07841 (Single-step de Sitter vacua from non-perturbative effects with matter) \n\nDrinks \n
