Theoretical Cosmology meetings
To actively encourage the field of theoretical cosmology and to set an informal stage for the exchange of ideas, the Dutch theoretical cosmology community organizes Friday afternoon meetings approximately 6 times a year — usually on the first Friday of the month. The meetings typically start in the afternoon with a main speaker, followed by a short break to continue with another seminar or journal club discussion on some topic of current interest. We end the afternoon with drinks. The supporting institutes in Leiden, Amsterdam, Groningen, Utrecht where recently joined by the strings and cosmology group in Leuven and take turns in hosting the event.

Title:Gravitational-wave lensing within ground-based gravitational-wave detectors
Abstract:
Gravitational waves, like light, could be gravitationally lensed. Recent studies suggest that we might see gravitational wave lensing already within the coming decade. I will discuss some of the latest advances in gravitational wave lensing, and present our search results for gravitational wave lensing within observation runs one and two.
14:40 – 15:10 Talk by Fabrizio Renzi (Leiden University)
Title:Testing Background Cosmology with Future Strong Lensing Surveys
Abstract:
Measurements of time delays between the images of multiply lensed quasars have been recently confirmed to be a competitive cosmological probe. Future surveys will increase the number of observed systems of at least an order of magnitude making strong lensing an interesting avenue to test the assumptions on the cosmological background. I will discuss the forecasted constraints from future strong lensing surveys on the parameterization of the backround at low redshift and how these are affected by the modeling of the lens mass profile.
15:20 – 15:50: Talk by Shahab Joudaki(Oxford University)
Title: Cosmology from overlapping imaging and spectroscopic surveys
Abstract:
I will discuss the combined analysis of weak lensing tomography and overlapping redshift-space galaxy clustering from the Kilo Degree Survey (KiDS) and the spectroscopic surveys of 2dFLenS, BOSS, and GAMA, with a focus on improvements to systematics mitigation and parameter constraints in standard and extended cosmologies. I will compare these parameter constraints to those obtained from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) and the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) Survey, and will assess their concordance with the Planck cosmic microwave background. In the case of KiDS and DES, I will also discuss the improvements that result from a combined analysis of the two datasets.
